Dulu announces Tk300cr project to revive Mogalhat port, prevent erosion
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said that a Taka 300 crore project has been undertaken to revive the Mogalhat Land Port and prevent river erosion in Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat.
"Initiatives have been taken to implement the project worth about Taka 300 crore to construct a permanent embankment for protecting the banks of the Dharla River, thereby safeguarding Mogalhat and its surrounding areas from river erosion," he said.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony held on Friday afternoon, after laying the foundation stone for a road development project stretching from Mogalhat Railway Station to the Dharla River Ghat in Lalmonirhat, a PID press release said here tonight.
Addressing the occasion, the Minister announced that steps are also being taken to reopen the Mogalhat land customs station and port, which have remained closed for a long time.
He said that a project to construct a permanent embankment, costing around Taka 300 crore, to protect the erosion-prone areas of Mogalhat and its vicinity has already received approval.
He expressed optimism that work on this project, which spans from the southern part of Lalmonirhat to the Kurigram border, would commence soon.
Noting that fruitful discussions have taken place at the highest levels of government regarding the reopening of the long-closed Mogalhat customs station and port, the Minister mentioned plans to visit Mogalhat soon
alongside the relevant Minister.
He also assured that the initiative to reactivate the Mogalhat Port would be implemented.
He sought the cooperation of local residents in transforming Mogalhat into an ideal model union, free from crime, drugs, and child marriage.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of ensuring a conducive educational environment in schools, ensuring the timely attendance of teachers, and maintaining cleanliness within the educational institutions.
Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Md Rashedul Haque Prodhan, District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Executive Engineer of the Lalmonirhat Roads and Highways Department Debashish Roy, officials and political leaders were present at the event.
Earlier, the Disaster Management and Relief Minister laid the foundation stone for 'Bhutta Chattar' (Maize Square) at the BGB Canteen intersection in Lalmonirhat district town today.
