Local government elections to be held fairly this fiscal year.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today said the local government elections will be held in a free, fair and impartial manner in the current fiscal year.
"Since we are a democratic government elected by the people, the elections will be held in the current fiscal year," he told reporters at the Secretariat here.
Earlier, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi called on Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan at the Secretariat.
State Minister Mir Shahe Alam was present at the meeting.
Later, talking to reporters, Shahe Alam said Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and shared his experience of local government elections in India.
"We have informed that the elections will be held in the current fiscal year," he said.
He said the meeting also discussed issues of bilateral interest, including politics and the economy.
"India has experience in local government elections. We want to utilise that experience. Discussions on this issue were held with the High Commissioner," the state minister said.
The Indian envoy called on Dr Moyeen Khan on the occasion of BNP's founding anniversary and greeted BNP leaders and activists.
