Riyadh invitation signals renewed momentum in Dhaka-Saudi ties

DHAKA, August 17, 2026: Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiyah conveyed the invitation by handing over a letter from the Saudi Crown Prince to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during a meeting at the Prime Minister's Cabinet Division office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.

The development marks a significant diplomatic engagement between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, with the invitation expected to provide an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

According to Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Shadhin, the Saudi ambassador discussed issues of mutual interest with the Prime Minister during the meeting.

The proposed visit could also pave the way for deeper cooperation in areas of shared priority, including trade and investment, labour migration, energy, development cooperation and people-to-people relations.

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir were present during the meeting.

Saudi Arabia remains an important partner for Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of manpower employment, remittances, trade, investment and religious and cultural exchanges.

The invitation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is expected to add further momentum to high-level diplomatic engagement between Dhaka and Riyadh.
