British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke has held a courtesy meeting and discussed bilateral economic relations with the Board of Directors of the Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

The meeting was held on Thursday in the Chamber's boardroom presided over by RCCI President Hasen Ali.

The meeting discussed the potential to export Rajshahi's jute and jute products, silk, mango, food grains and freshwater fish to the United Kingdom, as well as business visas, student visas and the development of the tourism industry.

In her speech, the British High Commissioner said Bangladeshi leather, spices and traditional pitha are being appreciated in the UK market and their demand is increasing.

The British High Commission is working on the development of products from small and medium industries and the marketing of such products in the UK market.

She emphasized the diversification of Rajshahi's traditional silk and jute products.

She also spoke about plans to support Bangladesh in the agricultural sector in addition to the ready-made garment sector.

RCCI President Hasen Ali described Rajshahi as an 'education city', seeking the UK's cooperation in the education and technology sectors, and requested that the business visa process be simplified to facilitate travel for businessmen.
