Government plans unified law for Ansar, VDP forces.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called for recognising and honouring at the state level individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the education sector.
"Those who are performing well in various fields abroad should also be given recognition at the national level at home. We need to move beyond conventional thinking and formulate policies for a modern, time-befitting and job-oriented education system as soon as possible," he said.
The President made the call when a delegation of BRAC University led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Syed Farhat Anwar paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban today, President's Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam told BSS.
During the meeting, the BRAC University vice-chancellor apprised the President of the university's overall academic activities and said the institution is focusing on teaching job-oriented subjects in line with contemporary demands.
He said the university is giving emphasis to subjects including artificial intelligence (AI), life sciences, agro-technology and nursing.
The President stressed the need for further improving the quality of education to keep pace with the rapidly changing world.
He also emphasised increasing research activities at both public and private universities.
During the meeting, the vice-chancellor invited the President to attend the university's upcoming convocation.
The President accepted the invitation and assured the delegation of attending the convocation.
The President's Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary, along with BRAC University's Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer and Registrar, were present at the meeting.
