President urges universities to strengthen policymaking and research.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged universities to strengthen policymaking and intensify research activities to improve the quality of higher education.
He made the urge as separate delegations from Khulna University and Islamic University Bangladesh paid courtesy calls on him at Bangabhaban this afternoon.
President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam told BSS that the President, also the Chancellor of the universities, directed the authorities to ensure quality education in all academic activities.
He urged the university authorities to make all-out efforts to produce competent graduates capable of contributing at national and international levels.
During the meetings, the vice-chancellors briefed the President on the overall activities of their respective universities.
"The current government is working with due importance to rebuild and improve the quality of the education system that was devastated and disrupted during the fascist regime," the President said, reaffirming continued government support.
The Khulna University delegation was led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim, while the Islamic University Bangladesh delegation was led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K M Motinur Rahman.
Secretaries of the President's Office were present at the meetings.
