Stocks fall as DSEX loses 42 points
Dhaka stocks started the week on a weak note on Monday, with the benchmark DSEX shedding 41.71 points as most traded shares declined.
The DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), fell 0.75 percent to 5,550.50 points.
The DSE-30 index, comprising the 30 leading companies, dropped 15.26 points to 2,105.92, while the DSES, the Shariah-based index, declined 11.74 points to 1,107.
The market witnessed a mixed but predominantly bearish trend, with prices of 254 issues declining against gains in 100, while 32 remained unchanged.
Turnover, however, remained relatively high as investors traded shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 788.71 crore on the DSE.
A total of 29.49 crore shares and mutual fund units changed hands in 386 companies during the session.
Eastern Bank, Sharp Industries, Envoy Textiles, IPDC Finance, Orion Infusion, Bangladesh Export Import Company, Bangladesh National Insurance, Far East Knitting and Dyeing, Paramount Textile and Reliance Insurance were among the most traded securities by turnover.
ICB AMCL Second Mutual Fund, Crystal Insurance, Prime Finance First Mutual Fund, Orion Infusion, Desh General Insurance, LR Global Bangladesh Mutual Fund One, First Janata Bank Mutual Fund, Agrani Insurance, ICB AMCL Sonali Bank Ltd First Mutual Fund and Prime Bank 1st ICB AMCL Mutual Fund were among the top gainers.
On the other hand, Anlima Yarn Dyeing, People's Leasing and Finance, Samata Leather, Nahi Aluminium, Meghna Condensed Milk, Desh Garments, Matin Spinning, Silco Pharmaceuticals, Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills and Bay Leasing and Investment featured among the biggest losers.
The DSE's market capitalisation stood at Tk 69,290,019.45 million at the end of the day's trading.
