Switzerland backs Bangladesh platform for climate and nature finance
Switzerland has supported a national dialogue in Dhaka aimed at strengthening climate and nature financing in Bangladesh, with participants stressing the need to ensure that funding delivers tangible benefits to people on the ground.
The dialogue, titled “From Paris to Antalya: A Reflection on Finance for Climate and Nature”, was held on October 15 and marked the launch of the Nature and Governance Policy Platform (NGPP), a new initiative aimed at strengthening evidence-based policymaking on climate, nature and governance in Bangladesh.
Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, minister for local government, rural development and cooperatives, inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
Diepak Elmer, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Switzerland in Dhaka, said climate finance could deliver lasting results only when institutions were capable, responsibilities clearly defined, decisions informed by evidence and people involved in setting priorities.
“Climate finance delivers lasting results when institutions are capable, responsibilities are clear, decisions are informed by evidence, and people have a voice in shaping priorities,” he said.
The newly launched NGPP is expected to support policy discussions by strengthening the evidence base on climate, nature and governance, helping policymakers make more informed decisions on financing and implementation.
Policymakers, members of parliament, government officials, researchers, youth representatives and development partners attended the dialogue.
The initiative comes amid growing attention to the need for effective climate financing, with implementation, institutional capacity and community participation remaining important considerations in ensuring that resources translate into meaningful outcomes.
