Bangladesh Calls for Stronger Economic Ties with Pakistan at Dhaka Chess Tournament

Prime Minister's Advisor on Education and Primary and Mass Education Dr. Mahdi Amin said that Bangladesh and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation and people-to-people connectivity through sports diplomacy.

Dr. Mahadi also called upon the Government of Pakistan to extend its continued support toward strengthening the local economy and enhance bilateral ties between the two neighboring countries.

Call for Enhanced Economic Cooperation

Addressing at the closing ceremony of the Mian Sultan Khan Chess tournament, Dr. Mahdi Amin expressed his views about the significance of cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan in different fields.

It is a joint effort of the Bangladesh Chess Federation organized to commemorate the great chess player of Pakistan, Mian Sultan Khan, who was thrice the British Chess Champion.

He further said that through such continuous activities in the form of cultural sports can create new opportunities of trade and economic partnership between the two countries.

He also thanked the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka and Bangladesh Chess Federation for jointly organizing this international chess tournament.

Pakistan High Commission on People-to-People Connectivity

Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider, expressed gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Chess Federation for their cooperation in making the tournament successful.

He thanked Dr. Mahdi Amin for attending the closing ceremony and said that such platforms help strengthen people-to-people relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

According to him, sports events like chess tournaments provide valuable opportunities to build friendship, mutual respect, and stronger diplomatic understanding between the two nations.

The High Commissioner also thanked the diplomats, grandmasters, international masters, officials of the Bangladesh Chess Federation, media representatives, and other participants for their presence and contribution to the success of the event.

Participation of Over 200 Players in Dhaka

More than 200 chess players from diverse backgrounds, including diplomats, professionals, national chess players of Bangladesh, students and chess enthusiasts were present in the tournament.

The large participation reflected Bangladesh’s growing passion for chess and its role in promoting international sports diplomacy.

Prize Distribution and Closing Ceremony

At the end of the event, Dr. Mahdi Amin and the Pakistan High Commissioner jointly distributed certificates, medals, prize money, and trophies among the winners and top performers of the tournament.

The leaders from both sides congratulated the participants and commended on the success of the event. It played a key role in building diplomacy between Bangladesh and Pakistan through sports.
