NU reforms expected to strengthen Bangladesh’s higher education.
BNP Standing Committee member and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that the ongoing reform and modernization activities of the National University (NU) will play a positive role in the development of higher education in the country.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled 'The Spirit of July Uprising and the Future of Bangladesh' organized on the occasion of the second anniversary of the July Uprising at the Senate Building of the NU’s main campus in Gazipur.
NU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A S M Amanullah presided over the event.
Rizvi Ahmed said the National University has been working tirelessly to rebuild the collapsed education system after the July Uprising. “The current administration of the university has taken various time-befitting and job-oriented initiatives in line with the demands of the time and the labor market, which are unprecedented and timely,” he added.
The veteran BNP leader further said the benefits of the National University's reform initiatives must reach the grassroots level, as a large part of higher education in the country is conducted through the colleges affiliated with the National University.
Highlighting the significance of the July Mass Uprising, Rizvi said, "July is the expression of long-accumulated grievances."
He said everyone must work with honesty, dedication, and patriotism. Instead of repeating the type of misrule and authoritarian activities seen in the past, a democratic, accountable, and humane state system must be built.
