Digital literacy initiative highlights Pakistan-Bangladesh people-to-people ties

The Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka on Thursday donated information technology (IT) equipment to the historic Sir Salimullah Orphanage, reaffirming its commitment to supporting digital literacy and youth empowerment in Bangladesh.

The equipment was formally handed over during a ceremony attended by Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. Imran Haider and Nawabzada Khawaja Samiullah Askari, the great-grandson of the orphanage’s founder, Nawab Sir Salimullah Bahadur of Dhaka.

While speaking on this occasion, the guests also paid glowing tributes to Nawab Sir Salimullah Bahadur for his enduring service towards philanthropy, education and social welfare.

It was observed that his legacy continues to influence the coming generations and his contributions are still pertinent to solve the present-day social issues.

The High Commissioner Imran Haider also stressed on the importance of digitized education in making the younger generation ready for the realities of the modern world.

According to him, it has become very important to have access to technology in order to empower youth and create new possibilities in terms of education, job and social development.

Speaking on this occasion, Nawabzada Khawaja Samiullah Askari thanked Pakistan High Commission for their support and stressed the importance of providing modern gadgets to the students in order to facilitate their education.

The attendees also appreciated the administration of Sir Salimullah Orphanage for providing quality education and teaching digital skills to resident students.

Set up by Nawab Sir Salimullah Bahadur, who happens to be one of the most famous philanthropists and social activists of the Bengal area, the orphanage has been acting as a social welfare organization offering education to poor children for many years.

Donation of IT tools is hoped to improve the technological capabilities of the orphanage and make students acquire useful technological skills.
