To Ensure Mental Healthcare for Wounded July Uprising Survivors
Aparajito 24 Foundation has organized a special workshop to provide mental well-being and psychological support to those affected and injured in the July 2024 mass uprising.
The workshop was organized on Sunday afternoon (June 7) at Banani DOHS in the capital to deliver mental healthcare services to the wounded July survivors.
From the afternoon until the evening, mental health experts from home and abroad conducted various activities for the participants. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Abdullah Hasan, a physician from New York University Langone Health in the United States.
The workshop covered topics including coping with trauma, building psychological resilience, emotional regulation, stress management, family support systems, and long-term mental well-being. It offered a safe environment for the participants, giving them the opportunity to discuss their experiences and psychological challenges, and to learn about various techniques helpful in the recovery process.
This event marked the 10th mental healthcare workshop organized by Aparajito 24 Foundation.
Established in January 2025 as a voluntary, non-profit humanitarian organization, Aparajito 24 Foundation has been working toward the rehabilitation of those affected and injured in the July 2024 mass uprising. The foundation implements an integrated rehabilitation model providing medical aid, livelihood support, mental healthcare, temporary accommodation, and emergency humanitarian assistance.
In continuation of these efforts, a day-long family reunion was organized yesterday, Saturday, at a resort in Gazipur, near Dhaka, bringing together wounded July survivors and their families from across the country. Participants coming from different regions of the country enjoyed spending the day together, participating in sports, recreational activities, group events, and mutual exchanges of thoughts.
The main objective of this event was to create a safe, dignified, and supportive environment for individuals undergoing medical and rehabilitation processes, allowing them to temporarily step away from their daily struggles, find mental solace, and experience social connection.
To date, Aparajito 24 Foundation has provided assistance to 50 injured and affected individuals across all eight divisions of the country, directly supporting 164 family members.
Regarding the event, Dr. Parveen Rahman, President of Aparajito 24 Foundation, said, "Rehabilitation is not just a matter of medical or financial support. It is a process of restoring dignity, self-confidence, hope, and the opportunity for reintegration into society. Our goal is to ensure that the affected individuals feel they are not alone."
Participating in the workshop Mizan Ahmed, a 19-year-old who lost an eye after being injured at Babna Point in Sylhet said, "After being injured in the July movement, I passed through a very difficult time mentally alongside the physical pain. By attending several workshops hosted by the Aparajito Foundation, I found the opportunity to express my feelings. The experts' advice and the experiences of my fellow survivors have given me renewed self-confidence and mental strength. I hope this continues in the future for others injured like me."
Aparajito 24 Foundation will continue to stand by the affected and injured individuals through an integrated rehabilitation framework in the future, enabling them to move forward in life with dignity and confidence.
Further remarks were delivered by Dr. M. Mustajib Haider, General Secretary of Aparajito 24 Foundation. Participants of the July Movement also shared their experiences of being injured during the movement and the challenges they faced afterward. Among them were Shainur Mia from Habiganj, who lost his left eye and 55 percent of the vision in his right eye; Noor Hossain from Mirpur, Dhaka, who lost his right eye; Sabbir Ahmed from Mogbazar, who lost both eyes; Robel Hossain, who lost one eye; Junayed Ahmed, who lost his left leg; and Mizan Ahmed.
