China Reaffirms Strategic Partnership with Bangladesh at Defence Staff College Lecture
DHAKA, July 15: Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Bangladesh, saying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's recent visit to China has opened a new chapter in bilateral relations by elevating cooperation to a "China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era."
Speaking at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Mirpur on Tuesday, Ambassador Yao said China remains committed to supporting Bangladesh's development and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors under the upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The lecture, attended by Acting Commandant Md Asaduzzaman, more than 300 officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and representatives from several foreign militaries, focused on China's foreign policy, regional security, global governance and the future trajectory of Dhaka-Beijing relations.
Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's recent official visit to China, Ambassador Yao described the tour as "fruitful", noting that the two countries had agreed to elevate their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and deepen collaboration in the new era.
Quoting Chinese President Xi Jinping, the envoy said China has always attached great importance to its relationship with Bangladesh and would remain "a trustworthy good friend, good neighbour and good partner."
He reiterated Beijing's readiness to enhance exchanges with all sectors of Bangladesh and support the country's economic and social development.
Highlighting China's foreign policy, Ambassador Yao said Beijing consistently pursues an independent policy of peace and does not seek hegemony, expansion or spheres of influence. Instead, China advocates an international order based on equality, mutual respect and shared development.
The ambassador also outlined China's major global policy frameworks, including the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) and Global Governance Initiative, describing them as platforms for promoting sustainable development, collective security, cultural exchanges and reforms in global governance.
He said China is prepared to work with Bangladesh and the wider international community to promote an "equal and orderly multipolar world" and a more inclusive and universally beneficial model of economic globalisation.
The lecture concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session during which Ambassador Yao exchanged views with participants on regional and international issues, including the protracted Rohingya crisis.
The engagement at Bangladesh's premier military educational institution reflects China's continued diplomatic outreach to the country's defence and strategic community at a time when bilateral ties are expanding across political, economic and security domains.
