Dot Internet and Several ISP Offices Attacked: ISPAB Expresses Concern Over Digital Infrastructure and Security

The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has stated that the attack carried out late on June 9 against the principal office of Dot Internet in Lalmaatiya, Mohammadpur, Dhaka, along with offices of internet service providers in Badda, Chandpur Sadar, Debidwar of Cumilla, Gazipur, and Bogra, is not merely an assault on a single organization but a direct strike on the country's information technology infrastructure and digital economy.

The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has strongly condemned a series of coordinated attacks on internet service providers across the country, calling it a direct strike on Bangladesh's IT infrastructure and digital economy.

At a press conference held on Sunday (June 14) at the ISPAB headquarters in Banani, association leaders detailed the late-night violence, the extensive damage to critical technical equipment, and the long-term threat to the nation's digital growth.

The press conference revealed that during the attack, a group of militants entered the offices of these organizations and carried out widespread vandalism and looting. Several officers and employees were injured, and critical technical equipment and infrastructure were damaged. The association did not immediately release detailed information on the exact timing of the attack, the number of injured, or the precise extent of the damage. However, leaders noted that the severity of the incident and the infrastructure damage could negatively impact the continuity of internet services for millions of customers across the country.

ISPAB leaders emphasized that the ISP sector plays a vital role in delivering uninterrupted internet services to millions of customers nationwide. Such attacks have created deep concerns regarding the sector's security, investment environment, and service continuity.

The press conference was attended by ISPAB President Mohammad Aminul Hakim, General Secretary Nazmul Karim Bhunia, Vice President Neyamul Haque Khan, co-General Secretaries Mahbub Alam Raju and Fuad Mohammad Sharafuddin, Treasurer Moin Uddin Ahmed, Directors Rashedur Rahman Rajon, Mohammad Mithu Hawlader, Sabbir Ahmed, Raihsul Islam Tuhin, Mohammad Zubayer Islam, and SM Saiful Islam Selim, among others.

Leaders stated that they would provide updated information regarding detailed incident reports and the status of legal proceedings once further details become available.

At the press conference, ISPAB demanded that the relevant government authorities promptly identify and arrest those involved in the attack and ensure exemplary punishment for the perpetrators. The association urged that information technology and internet infrastructure be treated as critical national assets and that security be strengthened accordingly. It also called for effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, provision of necessary support to ensure safe operations for affected organizations, and immediate action by local police stations whenever such activities occur at ISP premises. The association believes these demands are essential to secure the ISP sector's safety, investment climate, and service continuity.

The press conference highlighted that ensuring the security of information technology sector organizations is critically important at this stage of the country's digital transformation and formation of a technology-dependent economy. Failure to do so could negatively affect both investment and service delivery. Experts believe that without adequate security for internet infrastructure, digital service delays, data loss, and business risks increase, which could ultimately reduce the growth rate of the digital economy in the long term. ISPAB remains hopeful that the government and law enforcement agencies will take prompt action and that the association will update this report once further information becomes available regarding the thorough investigation, arrest of suspects, and timeline for judicial proceedings.

This attack raises new questions about the security systems of internet service provider organizations in the country and creates risks for the dynamism of the digital economy. ISPAB believes such attacks have generated deep concerns regarding sector security, investment environment, and service continuity, and the association remains hopeful for prompt government action. This report will be updated with detailed investigation findings, the number of injured, the extent of damage, and the status of legal proceedings as more information becomes available.
