Task force intensifies anti-dengue drives during monsoon.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam today said the national task force formed to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases will intensify regular drives and monitoring activities at houses and establishments across the capital during the monsoon season.
He made the remarks while inspecting an Aedes mosquito search and larva destruction drive conducted by the Task Force Committee for Prevention of Dengue and Other Mosquito-Borne Diseases at several establishments on Roads- 107 and 112 in the Gulshan-2 area.
The state minister said the ongoing anti-dengue campaign would continue uninterrupted and urged city residents to prevent waterlogging in balconies, flower pots, rooftop gardens and other areas of their homes, while maintaining cleanliness to curb mosquito breeding.
Speaking to journalists after the drive, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes said awareness and cleanliness activities were being carried out regularly at every household under the corporation’s three-month programme aimed at controlling dengue mosquitoes during the rainy season.
He called on city dwellers to support DNCC’s dengue prevention efforts by regularly removing stagnant water from their homes and rooftops.
During the drive, DNCC Executive Magistrate Marufa Akter Neli fined the owner of a restaurant on Road-107 Tk 50,000 after Aedes mosquito larvae were found on the premises.
The magistrate also ordered a two-month simple imprisonment sentence in default of payment of the fine.
Alongside larva destruction activities, the campaign included public awareness measures such as loudspeaker announcements, leaflet distribution and sticker campaigns among local residents to encourage active participation in preventing the spread of dengue.
