Bangladesh, Algeria seek stronger cooperation in energy, fertilizer, trade

Bangladesh and Algeria have discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy, fertilizer, pharmaceuticals, trade and investment, with Dhaka stressing the need for greater collaboration to ensure long-term energy and food security.

Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani made a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaium Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Sunday.

The meeting took place as the two sides explored ways to further expand cooperation between the two countries.

The Algerian envoy congratulated Humaium Kobir on assuming office as state minister for foreign affairs.

During the meeting, the state minister reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Algeria and highlighted the growing areas of bilateral cooperation.

He requested the Algerian ambassador to enhance cooperation in the energy sector, particularly to help ensure Bangladesh's long-term energy security.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, shipbuilding and people-to-people contacts.

Kobir particularly emphasised cooperation in the fertilizer sector, saying greater collaboration in this area would contribute to Bangladesh's efforts to ensure food security.

He also underscored the importance of strengthening people-to-people contacts and called for high-level visits between the two countries to further deepen bilateral ties.

Ambassador Saidani expressed Algeria's interest in enhancing cooperation with Bangladesh in energy, pharmaceuticals, fertilizer, shipbuilding and maritime shipping lines.

The two sides also stressed the importance of high-level exchanges to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
