Cultural affairs minister urges unity against extremism, communalism.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today called upon people of all faiths, communities and ethnicities to unite against fundamentalism, extremism and communalism.
He made the call at a religious gathering held in Hemayetpur of Pabna on the occasion of the 139th birth anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra and the holy bathing festival at the Bhagirathi-Padma.
After the religious gathering, special prayers, religious discussions and various rituals of the holy bathing festival were held.
Emphasising the need to maintain mutual respect and harmony among people of all religions, he said Bangladesh's strength lies in its pluralistic culture and that a peaceful, secular and humane state must be built by upholding that culture.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom attended the programme as a special guest.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (Hindu-Buddhist-Christian and ethnic minority affairs) Bijon Kanti Sarker and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour and Employment Affairs Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were also present at the programme, chaired by Thakur Anukul Chandra Satsang President Pran Shankar Das.
