CHT minister seeks LGRD cooperation to improve hill connectivity.
Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Sa Ching Prue today sought cooperation from the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Ministry to improve connectivity in remote hill areas while preserving the region's environment and natural resources.
He made the call during a meeting with LGRD Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed various issues of mutual interest and cooperation between their ministries.
Referring to the government's ongoing efforts to improve communication networks across the country, including the CHT, Sa Ching Prue said the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) under the LGRD Ministry is playing an important role in ensuring safe drinking water for people in the hill areas.
Highlighting the prospects and challenges of the CHT, he said many roads in remote parts of the hill region remain unpaved and earthen, causing severe difficulties for local people, particularly during the monsoon and rainy season.
"The people of the hill areas are extremely hardworking. I hope the people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts will always receive the necessary cooperation from the local government to facilitate their movement," he said.
Welcoming the CHT minister's initiative and proposal, Moyeen Khan said the LGRD Ministry and the CHT Affairs Ministry would work together to improve the living conditions of people in both the hilly and plain areas and accelerate the country's overall economic growth.
