State Minister Humaiun Kobir begins two-day visit to Algiers, set to meet key ministers and prime minister
Bangladesh is seeking to deepen energy, trade and agricultural cooperation with Algeria as State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir began a two-day official visit to the North African country on Tuesday.
Kobir arrived in Algiers on Tuesday (October 20) and was received by Abdelmalek Bouheddou, director general for Asia and Oceania at Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a press release issued by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the visit, the state minister is scheduled to meet Algeria’s ministers responsible for hydrocarbons, foreign affairs, and agriculture, rural development and fisheries.
He is also scheduled to hold a meeting with the Algerian prime minister.
The discussions are expected to focus on expanding bilateral cooperation in energy, trade and agriculture, alongside other issues of mutual interest.
The visit comes as Bangladesh seeks to strengthen economic engagement with countries beyond its traditional partners and explore opportunities for cooperation in energy security, agricultural development and trade.
Algeria, a major oil and natural gas producer in North Africa, could offer opportunities for Bangladesh to expand engagement in the energy sector. Agriculture and fisheries are also expected to feature in the discussions.
The foreign ministry said the meetings would aim to further strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Algeria.
Further details of the discussions and any agreements reached during the visit were not immediately available.
