Law minister warns BNP rebels over nominated candidates in UP polls
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today said all party leaders and activists must work in favour of BNP-nominated candidates in the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) elections.
He also warned that anyone who opposes the party-nominated candidates or obstructs their path will have no place in the party.
"The prime minister will provide guidelines on how to work in the local elections. Detailed information on every union will be stored in the prime minister's own computer system. Those within the party who defy the directives and engage in disloyalty will not be forgiven under any circumstances," the law minister said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing an exchange of views with party leaders and activists as the chief guest at the Shailkupa upazila BNP office in Jhenaidah today.
Md Asaduzzaman said the party is looking for winnable candidates for the upcoming local government elections. Even if a senior party leader secures the nomination, he will not be given the opportunity if there is a risk of his defeat, regardless of how senior he is.
"If my party does not win, what is the use of having a senior leader like me? If the BNP had not come to power, it would not have mattered how senior a leader I was or how good a person I was," he added.
The exchange of views was attended by Shailkupa Upazila BNP President Abul Hossain, General Secretary Humayun Babar Firoz, and leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations at various levels.
Meanwhile, the minister at a separate programme here said the absence of opposition members from the committee on constitutional amendments would not complicate the process, as they would be present in parliament when the amendment proposals are placed.
He said these while responding to questions from journalists after a reception for meritorious students at Mingram School ground in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah, this afternoon.
