Bangladesh Urges Yunnan Entrepreneurs to Invest in Emerging Sectors

Kunming, August 22, 2026: The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming has invited entrepreneurs from China’s Yunnan province to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh, highlighting the country’s strategic position as a gateway connecting the markets of South Asia, Southeast Asia and China.

Bangladesh’s investment potential was showcased at an Overseas Investment and Trade Environment Promotion Event organized at the General Association of Yunnan Entrepreneurs in Kunming under the theme “Connect to the South, Prosper through Open Cooperation.”

At the event, Ridwanur Rahman, First Secretary (Commercial) of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming, delivered a presentation titled “Bangladesh as an Investment Destination.”

He said Bangladesh has emerged as an attractive destination for international investors due to its competitive workforce, availability of industrial land, access to energy, 100% electrification and strategic geographical location.

He emphasized that Bangladesh can serve as a bridge between South Asia, Southeast Asia and China, providing Chinese investors with an effective gateway to regional and international markets.

Kunming–Chattogram Corridor Offers New Trade Potential

Ridwanur Rahman said the proposed Kunming–Chattogram corridor could become a promising trade route connecting Southwest China with the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean.

Such connectivity, he noted, could create new opportunities for entrepreneurs from Yunnan to expand trade and investment activities in Bangladesh and beyond.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s investment policy framework, he said foreign investors can benefit from 100% foreign ownership and full repatriation of capital and profits. He also pointed to bilateral investment treaties with 34 countries, including China, as an important component of the country’s investment protection framework.

He highlighted the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone under construction in Anwara, Chattogram, along with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority’s (BIDA) One Stop Service, Export Processing Zones, High-Tech Parks and potential public-private partnership (PPP) projects worth more than US$4 billion.

RMG, Electronics and Renewable Energy Identified as Key Sectors

The presentation identified several promising investment sectors in Bangladesh, including ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, electronics, electric vehicles, agro-processing, renewable energy, logistics and information technology services.

Ridwanur Rahman particularly highlighted opportunities for Chinese companies in solar power, energy storage technology and green construction, where Bangladesh is seeking greater investment and technological cooperation.

Following the event, Yunnan entrepreneurs exchanged views with officials of the commercial wing of the Bangladesh Consulate General on potential investment and opportunities to expand bilateral trade.

The Consulate General said it is actively working to strengthen Bangladesh’s trade and investment relations with businesses and entrepreneurs in Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Guangxi.

The initiative reflects Bangladesh’s broader efforts to attract Chinese investment, diversify export-oriented industries and strengthen economic connectivity with China and other regional markets.
