BNP leaders to guard Durga Puja mandaps nationwide for security
BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister's Political Adviser Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said party leaders and activists will work as volunteers and guards at Durga Puja mandaps across the country in coordination with local Puja celebration committees to ensure safe and uninterrupted festivities.
"They will perform their duties like sleepless guards," he said while briefing journalists after a meeting of the BNP National Standing Committee at the party chairperson's office in Gulshan on Saturday night.
Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman presided over the meeting, which began at 6:30 pm.
Rizvi said the meeting discussed ensuring that members of the Hindu community could celebrate Durga Puja safely and without disruption at mandaps across the country, including in Dhaka, and share in the festivities.
He said BNP had already formed a committee to monitor Durga Puja security, led by Khayrul Kabir Khokon and Imran Saleh Prince, on Friday. The party had also issued instructions to its leaders and activists to remain vigilant about the safety of the celebrations.
Rizvi said that certain quarters were conspiring against the country and the democratic government.
He expressed confidence that the government would counter propaganda and conspiracies through effective management, adding that BNP leaders and activists would remain alert.
The meeting also discussed the party's organisational affairs and plans to expand its activities in the future.
