… Khulna allocates 578 tonnes of rice, Tk 7.7 lakh for Durga Puja celebrations
The government is distributing 578.4 tonnes of relief rice among 964 Durga Puja mandaps across nine upazilas and Khulna metropolitan areas ahead of the Hindu community's biggest religious festival.
Durga Puja celebrations will begin on October 16 with Mahashashthi.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Abdul Karim told BSS that the district administration, with support from upazila administrations and local units of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP), is distributing the allocated rice.
The distribution is expected to be completed within the next couple of days.
Khulna city BPUP General Secretary Prashanta Kumar Kundu thanked the government for the allocation, saying it would help members of the Sanatan community celebrate the festival. He also expressed gratitude to the authorities and law enforcement agencies for taking security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations.
Meanwhile, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has distributed Tk 7.70 lakh among 77 puja mandaps in the city.
KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju told BSS that the corporation handed over the cash assistance to the respective puja celebration committees on Saturday afternoon.
