Drug dealers, terrorists, extortionists must face justice: Law Minister.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said that drug dealers, terrorists and extortionists must be brought to book regardless of their political affiliation.
"The government is working based on truth and justice. If ordinary people point out our mistakes, we will be able to correct ourselves further," he said while addressing a views exchange meeting on law and order and development issues organized by the district administration at the conference room of the Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner's office as the chief guest this morning.
Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Golam Md Baten, the meeting was attended by lawmakers Mashiur Rahman and Abdul Alim, reserved women's seat MP Subarna Shikder, former secretary Dr Md Faridul Islam, District Council Administrator Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Khulna Range DIG Mizanur Rahman, Police Superintendent Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar and District Bar Association President Wahiduzzaman Dipu as special guests.
"Following the change from fascism, extravagance and unnecessary expenditure in government activities have been reduced. The Prime Minister's motorcade has been reduced from 28 vehicles to just four. He also cited the example of travelling like ordinary people, obeying traffic signals while going from the official residence to the Secretariat," the law minister said.
He further said previous allocation of Taka 35 crore for the Prime Minister's hospitality has been discontinued. Whereas around Taka 3,500 was previously spent on the Prime Minister's lunch for a single meal, lunch has now been arranged within Taka 100 per person for the Prime Minister and 40 officials and employees.
Regarding concerns over the entry of drugs and other illegal goods through the border, the Law Minister said the government has taken a firm stance to protect the country's young people from the devastating effects of drugs. The government will use all its strength to thwart any attempts to deliberately mislead the younger generation, he said.
Regarding social media and cybercrime, he said the government is closely reviewing crimes committed on Facebook and various other online platforms. However, instead of shutting down social media, emphasis is being placed on taking effective legal measures to control such crimes.
Expressing satisfaction over the overall law and order situation in Bagerhat, the minister called upon law enforcement agencies and administration officials to play a more responsible role in ensuring the security and rights of the people and good governance.
