Bangladesh seeks Saudi help to repatriate bodies of two nationals

Bangladesh has sought Saudi Arabia’s assistance in expediting the repatriation of the mortal remains of two Bangladeshi nationals, as Dhaka expressed solidarity with Riyadh following recent attacks.

The issue was raised when Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah bin Zafer Abiyah paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the state minister conveyed Bangladesh’s condolences over the loss of lives in the recent attacks and called for de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy, according to a press release issued by the foreign ministry.

She also expressed appreciation for the care provided to injured Bangladeshi nationals in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi ambassador thanked Bangladesh for its solidarity and support.

The meeting highlighted Bangladesh’s concern for the safety and welfare of its nationals in Saudi Arabia, home to a large Bangladeshi expatriate community.

The foreign ministry did not disclose further details about the two deceased nationals or indicate when their remains might be repatriated.
