DSCC plans Tk1,074 crore development projects for FY2026-27.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is moving forward with a large-scale development initiative aimed at building a planned, modern, and citizen-friendly city.
To this end, a plan has been finalised to implement development programmes involving Taka 1,074.08 crore during the fiscal 2026-27, with both ongoing and pipeline government projects.
This development plan covers nearly all key sectors directly linked to city dwellers like road connectivity, drainage, footpaths, and canal restoration, waste management, modern parking facilities, community centres, and recreational infrastructure.
DSCC Administrator and Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Salam said an allocation of Taka 554.84 crore has been earmarked for ongoing government projects (included in the Development Project Proforma or DPP) for fiscal 2026-27.
In addition, another Taka 519.24 crore has been allocated for government projects currently in the pipeline (also under DPP). Consequently, combining these two categories of projects creates the scope to implement government-funded development programmes involving over Taka 1,000 crore.
The DSCC administrator told BSS that a key focus of this development plan is to revitalise the transport system in DSCC.
An allocation of Taka 236.48 crore has been made for the road development project along the Inner Circular Ring Road embankment, stretching from the Rayerbazar Gate No. 2 to the Lohar Bridge, he said.
He further said upgrading this vital road would not only boost connectivity in the immediate area but also enhance road links between the city’s south-western region and other parts of the city.
Abdus Salam said significant initiatives are also underway to address the DSCC’s environment and water logging issues.
A total of Taka 153.86 crore has been allocated for projects involving canal restoration, renovation, and the creation of an aesthetic environment. Alongside restoring the canals, steps are being taken to beautify the surrounding areas.
He mentioned that the project could play a crucial role in restoring the city’s natural water bodies and drainage flows while simultaneously creating a pleasant environment for the citizens.
Taka 96 crore has been allocated for the Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy Shishu Park project to enhance recreational opportunities for city dwellers. The development and modernisation of this long-established recreation centre aims to create a more attractive environment for children and adolescents while also providing families with better opportunities to spend time together.
In line with modern urban management practices, special emphasis has been placed on waste removal and management within the development plan.
Besides, an allocation of Taka 36 crore has been made for a project covering DSCC areas.
This project focuses on waste removal and management, the procurement of modern machinery for road repairs, and easing traffic congestion through the installation of mechanised parking facilities.
The project aims to enhance capabilities in waste management and road maintenance through the use of modern machinery, while also introducing technology-driven improvements to the parking system.
Plans are also in place to develop infrastructure that supports the social and family activities of city residents.
An allocation of Taka 32.50 crore has been made for the first revised phase of the community centre construction project.
Abdus Salam hoped that this initiative would further expand the civic amenities available to residents for hosting social events.
Noting that significant investments are planned alongside ongoing projects, he said Taka 109.24 crore has been allocated for the development of damaged roads, drains, and footpaths in DSCC Zones 2, 4, and 7.
Similarly, he said, Taka 20 crore has been allocated for the development of damaged roads and drains in Zone 3.
Special initiatives are also underway for the development of the expanded areas of DSCC. Taka 190 crore has been allocated for a project to develop road infrastructure and drainage systems across 18 wards within the five newly incorporated zones of the DSCC.
Bringing these newly added areas under planned urban management and developing their road and drainage infrastructure will create opportunities to further enhance civic amenities for the local population.
Besides, Taka 20 crore has been allocated for the renovation, development, and modernisation of six social event centres under the DSCC. The plan is to create a better environment for citizens’ social and cultural activities by modernising these centres.
Substantial allocations have also been made for the development of major roads. Taka 180 crore has been allocated for projects to repair and upgrade damaged roads, drains, and footpaths along major thoroughfares under the DSCC.
This initiative will not only improve traffic flow on key city roads but also facilitate the enhancement of pedestrian walkways and drainage systems.
The DSCC administrator said the development of South Dhaka through these projects is not limited merely to road construction or renovation.
Instead, he said, an initiative has been taken to integrate connectivity, the environment, drainage, waste management, parking, recreation, and social infrastructure into a unified development framework.
In particular, bringing 18 wards across five new zones under the development plan has created an opportunity to accelerate infrastructure development in the DSCC’s expanded areas, he said.
Consequently, Abdus Salam said, by upgrading roads, drainage, and civic amenities in both the old and newly incorporated areas, the entire DSCC is being shaped into an integrated urban framework.
Overall, the action plan involving Taka 1,074.08 crore for the fiscal 2026-27 has emerged as a major initiative for the DSCC’s infrastructure development.
Abdus Salam said if these development programmes are implemented as planned, they will be able to bring visible progress to DSCC’s transport system, environment, civic services, and infrastructure, apart from strengthening the foundation for building a cleaner, modern, livable, and citizen-friendly DSCC.
