Mahdi Amin calls Tarique’s UN visit a national-interest mission.
Prime Minister’s adviser and spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Mahdi Amin, today described Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to the United Nations not as a ceremonial engagement or a display of power, but as a mission focused on serving the people and protecting Bangladesh’s national interests.
He said the journey to the United States takes one day, and the return takes another, leaving only four days to stay there.
Without wasting a single moment, these four days are packed with back-to-back bilateral and multilateral meetings, high-level UN programme, and diplomatic engagements serving Bangladesh's interests, he said.
“In total, it is a six-day visit. The official entourage consists of 35 people, including 15 ministers, state ministers, advisers, and special assistants, alongside essential personnel for security, media, and personal duties,” Mahdi Amin said.
He said it is not about ceremony, but working for the country’s people; not about showing off power, but protecting Bangladesh’s interests.
This visit also marks a significant moment in global history, he said.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman departed here for New York, USA, this morning to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
In his Facebook post, Mahdi Amin mentioned that following in the footsteps of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, their son — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, elected by the people, — will stand on the global stage of the United Nations.
As the third representative from the same family, Tarique Rahman will articulate the voice of the Bangladeshi people, the country’s interests, government policies, and future plans, he said.
Highlighting another unique aspect, Mahdi Amin said while the Prime Minister represents Bangladesh on the global stage, the Foreign Minister of his own government will be presiding over the UN session.
The PMO spokesperson said after two decades of sacrifice, struggle, movements, and mass uprisings, a democratic government is now in power.
With a massive mandate, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is carrying the voice of the country’s people to the global arena, he said.
Noting that this is not merely a foreign tour, Mahdi Amin said it goes beyond simply showcasing the country at the United Nations; it represents the international articulation of the people’s aspirations.
It embodies a legacy of emotions, sentiments, and ideals, marking the beginning of a new chapter in history on the global stage regarding Bangladesh’s interests, dignity and future, he added.
