Four engineering colleges planned; Dhaka Polytechnic to become model.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said four more engineering colleges will be established while Dhaka Polytechnic Institute will be turned into a model institution to create skilled human resources.

"Government is putting the highest importance on expanding technical and vocational education to create skilled manpower," he told a national dialogue on technical education in the capital's Sobhanbagh.

He said, "We have to move away from the conventional concept of education alone as technical education plays a highly important role in the socio-economic development of the country."

"There is huge demand worldwide for people skilled in technical fields," he said, adding that expatriate workers are one of the country's major sources of foreign currency earnings.

Milon said there is no alternative to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for transforming the country's population into human resources.

Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Md. Daud Miah participated in the discussion as a special guest while Chairman of Daffodil Group Dr. Md. Sabur Khan presented the keynote paper and Chairman of CCN Polytechnic Institute Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam Chowdhury delivered the welcome
address.
