Govt targets 850,000 tonnes of Aman paddy and rice procurement.
Food Minister Afroza Khanam, MP, today said the
government has set a procurement target of 300,000 metric tonnes (MT) of Aman
paddy, 500,000 metric tonnes of parboiled rice and 50,000 metric tonnes of
non-parboiled rice during the current 2026-27 fiscal year.
She said the procurement prices have been fixed at Taka 35 per kilogram of
Aman paddy, Taka 49 per kilogram of parboiled rice and Taka 48 per kilogram
of non-parboiled rice.
The minister disclosed the information at the conference room of Press
Information Department (PID) today after a meeting of the Food Planning and
Monitoring Committee (FPMC).
Afroza Khanam said the procurement price of paddy had been fixed by adding a
fair profit margin to the farmers' production costs.
The highest importance has been given to ensuring that farmers are not
adversely affected in any way. The government's main objective is to ensure
that farmers receive fair prices for their produce, she added.
She said the decision on Aman procurement was taken at the FPMC meeting after
reviewing the country's overall food situation, farmers' interests,
production costs, market conditions and all other relevant issues.
The Food Minister further said that although the government had set an
official procurement target for paddy, arrangements would be made to purchase
additional quantities if any farmer wished to sell more paddy to the
government.
No farmer should be turned away without having their paddy purchased on the
pretext of the procurement target, she continued.
"If a farmer comes to sell paddy to the government, it must be purchased from
him or her." Necessary measures will be taken to this end, she added.
According to the decisions taken at the meeting, Aman paddy procurement will
begin on November 14, 2026 and continue until February 28, 2027.
Meanwhile, rice procurement will start on December 1, 2026 and continue until
February 28, 2027.
