Health minister says Bangladesh ensures equal rights, communal harmony
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain today said there is no religious or ethnic discrimination in Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh is a country of equality and communal harmony, where Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians and people from different ethnic communities live under the same sky and under one roof,” he said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest free medical camp, clothes distribution and greetings exchange programmes at Shree Shree Durga Temple in Ahammadpur of Monohardi upazila in the district.
Addressing the devotees and visitors, Sakhawat said, “Do not consider yourselves minorities. Every citizen of this country has equal rights.
There is no scope for treating anyone differently on the basis of religion or ethnic identity.”
He said the government has taken necessary measures to ensure the highest level of security across the country so that members of the Hindu community could celebrate the Sharadiya Durga Puja in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.
The minister said law enforcement agencies and the administration, alongside party activists, are working to ensure the security at every Puja mandap.
Sakhawat further said the government has provided the highest-ever financial assistance for Durga Puja this year since the country’s independence.
He called upon all to celebrate the festival while maintaining religious harmony and mutual goodwill.
