President urges merit-based teacher recruitment to improve university quality.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called for giving the highest priority to competence and merit in all areas, including teacher recruitment, to improve the quality of education and research at universities.
"Competence and merit must be given the highest priority in all areas, including teacher recruitment, to further improve the quality and excellence of education and research at universities," he said.
The President made the remarks when Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban today.
President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam briefed BSS about the meeting.
During the meeting, the JU vice-chancellor briefed the President on the university's overall education, research and academic activities.
He also formally invited the President, who is the Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, to attend the university's proposed convocation scheduled to be held in April next year.
The President accepted the invitation and expressed his interest in attending the convocation.
Secretaries of the President's Office were present at the meeting.
