Bangladesh, Thailand explore direct maritime link between Chattogram and Ranong ports
Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam today emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Thailand, expanding cooperation in maritime trade and shipping, and increasing trade and investment between the two countries.
The minister made call during a courtesy call with the Ambassador of Thailand to Bangladesh Thitiporn Chirasawadi at the Ministry of Shipping this morning.
In the meeting, special importance was given to the possibility of launching direct maritime connectivity between Bangladesh and Thailand.
The Thai Ambassador said establishing connectivity between Chattogram and Ranong Port will open new possibilities for regional trade networks centered on the Bay of Bengal. As a result, the time and cost of goods transport between the two countries will reduce significantly. Alongside, trade expansion, increased connectivity, and strengthened economic cooperation will occur.
The Ambassador further mentioned that such an initiative will play an important role not only in expanding bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Thailand but also in enhancing regional connectivity and economic ties centered on the Bay of Bengal. Through this, new opportunities will be created for businessmen and investors of both countries, he expressed hope.
Rabiul Alam welcomed the initiative to establish direct maritime connectivity between Bangladesh and Thailand.
The minister emphasized increasing the capacity and efficiency of Chattogram Port to reduce the time and cost of goods transport and to make the country's import-export trade more dynamic.
He expressed hope for cooperation in discussing and taking necessary initiatives at the relevant levels to implement the possibility of establishing direct maritime connectivity between Chattogram and Ranong Port.
During the courtesy meeting, both sides expressed their determination to further strengthen the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Thailand.
