Community-led climate action is strengthening local resilience
The Swiss-supported climate programme GO4IMPact is advancing local adaptation in Naogaon district.
The Swiss-supported initiative is designed to promote locally led adaptation by enabling communities to identify climate-related challenges and participate in developing appropriate responses.
The programme is also intended to strengthen the institutional link between local communities and government authorities so that climate adaptation measures can be integrated into local planning and continue beyond the duration of individual projects.
The Embassy said Switzerland remains committed to supporting locally led adaptation efforts in Bangladesh and empowering communities and local institutions to contribute to a more climate-resilient future.
State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Shaikh Faridul Islam MP on Wednesday visited Naogaon and joined local communities and authorities to observe activities under the Switzerland-supported GO4IMPact programme, aimed at strengthening locally led climate adaptation in Bangladesh.
During the visit, the State Minister saw how priorities identified by local communities are being translated into practical initiatives under the programme, according to a post by the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh on Wednesday evening.
Among the activities highlighted during the visit were measures to address water scarcity through pond re-excavation and tree planting. The programme also seeks to incorporate community-identified priorities into local government planning, strengthening coordination between communities and public institutions.
The visit to Naogaon highlighted the importance of community participation and local government engagement in addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change, particularly issues related to water availability and environmental sustainability.
