UP election date, phases to be finalized at EC meeting October 12.
The date for the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) elections will be finalized at a meeting of the Election Commission (EC) on October 12, said Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
“The date for the UP elections will be finalized at Monday’s commission meeting (October 12). We will then announce when and in how many phases the elections will be held,” he told reporters at the Election Building in Agargaon today.
Sanaullah said the election schedule would not be announced centrally by the EC. Rather, district election officers would announce the schedule at the field level, while the commission would determine the election phases, he added.
On talks with political parties, he said the process would continue and the commission would discuss all relevant issues at Monday’s meeting.
Sanaullah also said representatives of the European Union Election Observation Mission had met the EC, offered suggestions and expressed their willingness to work jointly with the commission.
The Election Commission welcomed their support, he added.
