Yasser urges global action against disinformation and AI misuse.
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today called for concerted global efforts to prevent disinformation and misuse of artificial intelligence (AI).
“In the digital era, there is no shortage of information; rather, the spread of disinformation and false information is a major challenge,” he said.
The state minister was addressing a discussion organised on the occasion of International Day for Universal Access to Information 2026 at Tathya Bhaban here today.
Yasser said emphasis must be given on ensuring the right to information, verifying the authenticity of information and disseminating information responsibly.
The day was observed this year with the theme “Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: Role of access to Information in addressing Information Disorder.”
“Everyone has the right to know information and all information must be accurate, Yasser said adding that wrong and false information have negative impacts not only on individuals but also on families, society, the state and democratic institutions.
Therefore, media professionals, politicians and people from all walks of life must play a responsible role in disseminating information, he noted.
The state minister observed that if people don’t become cautious and take measures from now on, the world will one day face a great danger because of disinformation, false information and misuse of AI.
“Bangladesh and all countries of the world must work collectively to address disinformation and misuse of AI,” he said.
Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Mahbuba Farzana presided over the meeting.
Professor Dr Suman Rahman, head of the Department of Media Studies and Journalism at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh presented the keynote paper.
Prime Minister's Adviser on Information and Broadcasting Ministry Dr Zahed Ur Rahman was present as special guest.
National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, Sujan Secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of the Information Commission Shah Alam, heads of various departments under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also took part in the discussion.
