Govt monitoring Bangladeshi victims of Saudi airport attack: Ariful

NARAYANGANJ, Oct 13, 2026 (BSS) – Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury on Tuesday said the government is constantly inquiring about the Bangladeshi expatriates affected by the recent attack at an airport in Saudi Arabia.

“Immediately after the incident, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and labour wing have been keeping constant contact and monitoring the situation,” he told journalists after visiting the Labour Welfare Centre at Bandar here.

The minister said two Bangladeshi expatriates were killed in the tragic incident, while many others sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at several local hospitals there.

“We are constantly inquiring about their treatment. I personally spoke to the father of one of the injured expatriates, expressed my condolences and assured him of assistance,” he said.

Advising Bangladeshi expatriates living in Saudi Arabia to remain cautious amid the situation, Ariful Haque urged them to stay in safe places and contact the Bangladesh Embassy through the designated numbers in case of any emergency.

Responding to a question about harassment of expatriates at airports, he said the government remains sincere and committed to resolving any problems faced by Bangladeshi expatriates.

“If there are any specific complaints regarding harassment at the airport, please send them directly to our email address—minister.expat@gmail.com—for necessary resolution,” the minister said.

Ariful Haque said that he visited a women's hostel and a five-bed hospital here to assess facilities aimed at ensuring safe accommodation and medical support for working women in Narayanganj.

“We are working with the goal of formally reopening the women's workers' hostel and the five-bed hospital with full-fledged activities on November 7, meeting the long-standing expectations of people from all walks of life in the area,” he said.

Narayanganj-5 constituency lawmaker Abul Kalam, Labour and Employment Ministry Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafder, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) Md. Forhad siddique, Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) Director General Jamil Ahmed and Department of Labour Director General Md Abdus Samad Al Azad were present on the occasion, among others.
