REHAB leaders call for national unity, stronger democracy on November 7
DHAKA, November 8, 2026: Leaders of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) have called for national unity, political cooperation and stronger democratic institutions, saying collective efforts are essential to protecting the country's sovereignty and sustaining economic development.
They made the call at a discussion meeting organised by REHAB to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day on Saturday at the association's secretariat in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
Presided over by REHAB President Dr Ali Afzal, the meeting was attended by Senior Vice President Abdur Razzaq, Vice President-2 Abu Khalid Md Borkatullah, Vice President (Finance) Dr Md Harun Or Rashid and several directors and other leaders of the association.
In his presidential address, Ali Afzal described November 7 as a significant milestone in Bangladesh's history, saying one of its key lessons was the importance of making democracy sustainable and institutionalised.
He said the day symbolised national unity, solidarity, patriotism and collective responsibility, adding that people should set aside their differences and work together to protect the country's independence, sovereignty and democratic progress.
REHAB Senior Vice President Abdur Razzaq said national unity and solidarity were essential to overcoming crises and advancing the country's development.
He stressed the need to promote mutual respect, accountability and cooperation among people from all professions and walks of life, while keeping national interests above individual and political differences.
Vice President-2 Abu Khalid Md Borkatullah also called for collective efforts to uphold national independence, sovereignty and democracy.
He said there was no alternative to national unity and mutual cooperation in maintaining stability and sustaining the country's development.
REHAB Vice President (Finance) Dr Md Harun Or Rashid drew parallels between the November 7, 1975 Sepoy-People's Revolution and the student-led mass uprising of August 5, 2024.
He said the two events took place in different historical contexts but highlighted the importance of popular aspirations, national unity and democratic values.
Referring to the role of martyred President Ziaur Rahman in the establishment of multi-party democracy following the events of November 7, 1975, he said the August 5, 2024 uprising also reflected people's aspirations for rights and democratic governance.
Harun Or Rashid emphasised the need to maintain national unity and strengthen democratic institutions to ensure political stability, development and prosperity.
Other speakers at the meeting also underscored the importance of solidarity, mutual cooperation and collective commitment to national interests in advancing Bangladesh's overall progress.
