Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen met BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on September 15, with the two sides discussing China-Bangladesh relations and ways to deepen exchanges between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

During the meeting, Ambassador Yao said the CPC attaches importance to its friendly relations with the BNP and expressed Beijing's readiness to further strengthen institutionalised exchanges between the two parties.

According to a statement on the meeting, the Chinese envoy also highlighted the scope for greater sharing of experience and mutual learning in areas including state governance and party building.

Rizvi reaffirmed the BNP's commitment to maintaining friendship with China and expressed appreciation for what he described as the CPC's approach to party building and state governance.

The BNP leader also said his party was willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side.

The meeting comes as Bangladesh-China relations encompass political, economic and development cooperation, while Beijing has maintained engagement with major political parties in Bangladesh.

The discussions between Yao and Rizvi also underscored the role of party-to-party engagement as an additional channel for maintaining political and institutional contacts between Bangladesh and China.
