Committee to draft constitutional amendment proposals within 2026.
The second meeting of the Special Committee on Constitutional Amendment of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Cabinet Room of the Parliament Complex, with committee chairman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed in the chair.
Committee member and Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Nurul Islam Moni, committee member and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Md Asaduzzaman, committee member and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs Zainul Abedin, committee member and State Minister for Planning Md Jonaid Abdur Rahim Saki, committee member and State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque, and committee member and State Minister for Land Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin attended the meeting.
At the meeting, 26 political parties that signed the July Charter were invited to participate. Of the invited parties, 15 participated directly in the meeting, while one party submitted its proposals on implementation of the July Charter to the committee in writing.
Based on the discussions, the meeting decided to prepare a draft of the constitutional amendments within 2026 with a view to implementing the July Charter promptly.
The meeting proposed that if the political parties have any specific proposals regarding implementation of the July Charter, they should submit them to the committee in writing. It was also informed that the initiative to amend the Constitution would be taken based on discussions with all stakeholders of the July Charter and their opinions.
The meeting expressed a firm commitment to fully implement the signed July Charter.
Officials concerned from the Ministry of Law and the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present at the meeting.
