President urges tax lawyers to uphold values, democracy.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called upon tax lawyers to uphold social values and strengthen democracy.
“Crime has increased significantly in the society as moral and human values have deteriorated, the President said.
He said, every person should raise their voice to prevent such crimes and protect moral and human values.
The President made the call when a 29-member delegation of the Dhaka Taxes Bar Association and Bangladesh Tax Lawyers Association met him at Bangabhaban this afternoon, President’s Press Secretary Sarwar Alam told BSS.
The President further said, “After a long time, the country has returned to democratic path. As citizens, it is the responsibility of all of us to protect this democratic system. We must not derail from the democratic system again.”
“The elected government must be given time to move away from an authoritarian government and build a sustainable democratic system,” he added.
Dhaka Taxes Bar Association General Secretary Ashraf Hossain Khan sought the President’s cooperation in allocating land for construction of the association’s own building.
Former president Abdul Matin sought the President’s support to establish a Taxes Bar Council to oversee the training, problems and facilities of the tax lawyers.
President of Bangladesh Tax Lawyers Association Ramizuddin Ahmed congratulated and greeted the President and sought his cooperation in strengthening the forum of tax lawyers.
“Tax lawyers’ contribution to revenue collection is extremely important,” President said, stressing for ensuring income tax collection from individuals capable of paying income tax.
He assured of giving all-out cooperation to the tax lawyers.
Secretaries to the President’s Office were present during the meeting.
