President urges NU to formulate employment-oriented curriculum.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the authorities of National University (NU) to formulate employment oriented curriculum.
“The National University must prepare its curriculum in line with the employment demands at home and abroad to face the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and stop creating unemployed youths,” he said.
The President said this when a delegation led by NU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM. Amanullah paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban this afternoon, President’s Press Secretary Sarwar Alam told BSS.
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor briefed the President about NU’s initiatives to provide employment-oriented education, syllabus modernization and overall academic activities.
He sought cooperation for improving the dignity, professional opportunities and welfare of the university teachers.
The President assured them of extending his all support; saying- during the fascist regime country’s education system was collapsed, only artificially showing the high pass rate.”
“The present government is working to improve the quality of education at the National University, develop skilled human resources and enhance the capabilities of teachers,” he added.
He also called for introducing six-month and one-year short-term skill development courses under the NU in technology and technical education, as well as health services, allied health services, Technical and Further Education (TAFE) and ICT, considering the demands of the labour markets in the developed world.
“Such employment-oriented education programmes would make it possible to create international standard skilled manpower and increase overseas employment,” he said.
He also stressed the establishment of performing arts colleges in every district of the country in phases.
President, also the Chancellor of the NU, accepted an invitation of the VC to attend the convocation of the university as the chief guest.
Relevant secretaries to the President and the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Treasurer were present during the meeting.
