Govt distributes Tk3.06cr compensation to Barapukuria mine-affected families.
Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain distributed cheques worth Taka 3 crore 6 lakh 55 thousand and 520 among 583 people affected by the Barapukuria coal mine in Dinajpur.
Cheques were distributed at the conference room of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL) in Parbatipur upazila as compensation for houses of residents of 14 villages located outside the influence zone.
The minister handed over the cheques personally to each of the 583 affected beneficiary families.
Addressing the programme, Dr Zahid said, “Alongside development, the government attaches the highest importance to the welfare of people affected by development activities. Barapukuria coal mine is a national resource, but it is our responsibility to ensure that local people are not affected while extracting this resource.”
Members of the affected families who received the cheques welcomed the initiative, saying the assistance would play an important role in their rehabilitation and repair of their houses.
