Fuel prices may be reduced after Middle East crisis eases: Amit
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit today said the government would take steps to reduce fuel price after the ongoing Middle East crisis eases.
“We will try to readjust fuel price if global oil prices decline after the crisis ends,” he said while replying to a question after a meeting at Meherpur Deputy Commissioner’s office this afternoon.
The views exchange meeting was held on monitoring and coordination of overall government activities, including the law-and-order situation, anti-corruption efforts and drug control.
“Bangladesh is dependent on imports for its fuel requirements. Along with the rise in international prices, transportation and insurance costs have also increased,” said the state minister.
He said the government initially tried to manage the situation for around six months without increasing fuel prices. Later, it was compelled to adjust the prices.
“However, we are hopeful that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East will ease soon. Once the crisis is over and fuel prices fall in the international market, the government will try to readjust it very quickly,” Amit said.
Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Shilpi Rani Roy chaired the meeting, while Meherpur District Council Administrator and District BNP President Javed Masud Milton and Superintendent of Police Ujjal Kumar Roy, officials and employees concerned attended.
During the meeting, officials of various government departments briefed the state minister on the activities, development and various problems.
