Law minister urges stronger action against trafficking, smuggling.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister
Md Asaduzzaman today called for coordinated efforts and further strengthening
of legal and institutional mechanisms to effectively combat human
trafficking, forced labour and migrant smuggling.
"Bangladesh is committed to ensuring that economic integration and global
labour mobility take place with full respect for workers' and human rights
and that effective protection against exploitation is ensured," he said while
addressing as panellist a discussion titled "From Source to Shelf: Combating
Human Trafficking in Global Supply Chains" in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
(UAE).
The law minister was taking part in the high-level thematic discussion under
the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, an official
release said here today.
In his speech, Asaduzzaman highlighted various initiatives taken to
strengthen Bangladesh's legal and institutional mechanisms to combat human
trafficking, forced labour and migrant smuggling.
He stressed the enactment of the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling
Prevention and Suppression Act, 2026, strengthening the National Referral
Mechanism, developing a digital platform for managing human trafficking-
related data, and enhancing protection mechanisms for migrant workers and
victims of human trafficking.
The UAE Minister of Justice, executive directors of UNODC and INTERPOL, and
other senior representatives from the government and private sectors also
participated in the event as panelists.
