Food Minister Afroza Khanam has said the traditional boat race on the Kaliganga River is an important part of Manikganj's heritage and folk culture.

"The boat race will be organised every year to preserve this tradition, and we hope to enjoy the event together in the future," she said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the traditional boat race held on the Kaliganga River here today amid a festive atmosphere. She inaugurated the event and distributed prizes among the winners.

The race began from the Kandapowli area of the river and ended at Nayakandi Mor, with 24 boats from different parts of the country, including Kurigram, Pabna, Dohar, Nawabganj and Tangail, taking part.

Thousands of people, including men, women and children, gathered along both banks of the river to watch the competition.

Temporary shops, food stalls and various entertainment arrangements were also set up on both sides of the river to mark the event.

Manikganj district BNP and its affiliated organisations organised the boat race. Manikganj-1 constituency lawmaker SA Jinnah Kabir attended the programme as the special guest.
