The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh hosted a high-level luncheon titled “Advancing U.S.-Bangladesh Economic Partnership” at the Sheraton Hotel Dhaka, bringing together policymakers, diplomats and business leaders to discuss future trade collaboration.

Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir attended as chief guest, while U.S. Ambassador Brent T. Christensen joined as special guest, reflecting the importance of bilateral economic engagement.

Presiding over the event, AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed highlighted the steady growth of Bangladesh–United States trade relations and emphasised the need for sustained collaboration amid shifting global dynamics.

He reiterated AmCham’s commitment to fostering responsible business practices and improving the investment climate.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Christensen underscored the significance of ongoing trade arrangements, noting that reduced tariff structures under existing frameworks help maintain Bangladesh’s competitive access to the U.S. market while encouraging balanced trade flows.

The Commerce Minister stressed export diversification and increased investment as key priorities, identifying sectors such as pharmaceuticals, leather, agriculture, light engineering and ICT as drivers of future growth. He also sought continued U.S. support for Bangladesh’s smooth transition from least developed country status, targeting graduation by 2029.

The event concluded with an interactive session, enabling Business leaders and policymakers to exchange views on challenges and opportunities shaping bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
