Minister orders swift action on Dhaka traffic, dengue, waterlogging.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan has directed the authorities concerned to take swift and effective measures to address traffic congestion, dengue and waterlogging in Dhaka city.
“If people’s valuable time is wasted on the roads, it has a major impact on the economy . . . Therefore, effective initiatives must be taken to ease traffic congestion and ensure normal movement of city dwellers,” the minister said at a review meeting at the Local Government Division at the Secretariat here today.
The meeting was held on the progress of activities related to cleanliness in Dhaka city, dengue prevention, traffic congestion, canal excavation and removal of waterlogging and building a safe and sustainable Dhaka.
Urging all concerned to work in a coordinated manner to prevent dengue, Moyeen said the Prime Minister has inaugurated the Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign-2026.
The nationwide cleanliness and awareness activities will continue until December 12, he added.
Alongside strengthening the ongoing activities to prevent dengue, regular cleanliness drives must also be conducted, he said.
He urged the relevant authorities to review the progress of the programmes undertaken by the Prime Minister to prevent dengue and take necessary measures.
State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said the ongoing activities of the city corporations need to be further strengthened to build Dhaka as a clean, safe and liveable city.
He stressed the need for regular cleanliness drives to prevent dengue and campaigns to destroy breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.
Earlier, the administrators of Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations presented their ongoing activities.
The minister and the state minister expressed satisfaction after reviewing the progress of various activities undertaken by the city corporations for cleanliness in Dhaka city, dengue prevention, easing traffic congestion, canal excavation and removal of waterlogging, and building a safe and sustainable Dhaka.
Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hassan, along with relevant officials of the ministry and Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations, attended the meeting.
