DHAKA, October 14, 2026 — Switzerland and the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting safe migration, fair recruitment and stronger protection for migrant workers as the Bangladesh-based research organisation marks its 30th anniversary.

Diepak Elmer, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh, joined Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman at the inaugural ceremony marking the milestone.

In a statement, the Swiss Embassy highlighted its 15-year collaboration with RMMRU to advance migrant workers’ rights and improve migration governance in Bangladesh.

The embassy said RMMRU had played a distinctive role in documenting migrants’ experiences, translating them into evidence-based research and helping shape policies aimed at improving the lives of migrant workers and their families.

The collaboration has focused on promoting safer migration, ensuring fair recruitment practices and strengthening protections for people seeking employment abroad.

Congratulating Dr Tasneem Siddiqui, Dr C R Abrar and the entire RMMRU team, the embassy praised the organisation’s three decades of research, advocacy and dedicated work on migration issues.

It also expressed its interest in continuing the partnership with RMMRU to support migrant workers and their families.

The anniversary highlights the importance of research-driven policymaking and international cooperation in addressing migration-related challenges in Bangladesh, where overseas employment and remittances play a significant role in the economy.
